Getting started

Not sure where to start? You don’t need a referral, and you don’t need to have it all worked out. A short conversation is enough, and we’ll help you with the next step.

Where most families start

Most families get in touch before they have anything organised: no referral, no paperwork, and no clear idea of which service they need. That’s a completely normal place to start, and it’s exactly what a first phone call is for.

A short conversation is usually enough to work out what would help, what it involves, and whether a Medicare rebate applies.

Step by step

How it works

Four simple steps from your first message to your first appointment.
Step 1
Get in Touch
Call us or send a message. Tell us briefly what’s prompting you to reach out — no perfect words needed.
Step 2
We talk it through
We’ll get back to you to talk about what’s happening, answer your questions and suggest where to start.
Step 3
Parents first
The first appointment is usually with parents, without your child there, so we can hear the full picture.
Step 4
Their plan
We’ll explain what we suggest and what it involves, then find a time that suits your family.

Your first appointment

The first appointment is usually just with parents. You know your child better than anyone, and it gives you space to talk openly and ask questions. It can be in person or by telehealth.

Funding and referrals

You don’t need a referral to book with us. To claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral from your child’s GP, or from their paediatrician if they already see one.

We also see NDIS participants whose plans are self-managed or plan-managed. Not sure what applies to your family? Ask us when you get in touch.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a referral to see you?
No. You can book with us directly. A referral and a Mental Health Care Plan are only needed if you want to claim a Medicare rebate — and we can walk you through that when you get in touch.
Your child’s usual GP. If your child already sees a paediatrician, they can provide a referral directly instead.
Usually not. The first appointment is normally with parents, so you can talk freely and we can hear the full picture before we meet your child.
Yes — we work with self-managed and plan-managed NDIS plans. Get in touch and we’ll confirm how it applies to your child’s plan.
Get in touch and we’ll tell you what’s actually available rather than a general answer. Availability moves through the year, so it’s always worth asking.
